Tokyo Canal City - Onagi River

Around 1590, future shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, ordered Shirobei Onagi to cut canals to access the Gyotoku salt marsh, significantly making the route safer and shorter. Apart from being someone who developed Onagi Village (now Oshima in Koto Ward), little else is known about Onagi Shirobei, but the river gets his name from him. There are many low bridges as subsidence has progressed to the point where the land is below sea level at high tide. Floodgates at both ends of the river protect the land between. An unusual “X” shaped bridge, the Onagi River Clover Bridge, spans the intersection of the Onagi River and the Yokojikken river.

トウキョウ・カナル・シティ - 小名木川

1590年、後の将軍、徳川家康は小名木四郎兵衛に行徳塩田へより安全かつ短縮する運河の開削を命じた。 小名城村（現・江東区大島）を開発した人物である以外、大名木四郎兵衛についてはほとんど情報はないが川の名前は彼にちなんでいる。地盤沈下が進み一時期閉鎖されたが、2005年に水門の完成により、通行が可能となりました。小名木川と横十間川の合流点に珍しいX形の橋、小名木川クローバー橋が架かっています。
